DISABILITY BENEFITS, 101 - A WORKSHOP
As the name
implies, this workshop offers an overview of state and federal
disability-related benefits, i.e. Social Security Administration, Medicare,
Medicaid. This workshop is most
appropriate for adults new to disability or parents of a child new to
disability.
The goal of
Disability Benefits, 101 is to increase the knowledge of workshop participants
about the relationship between state and federal disability related benefits.
Through a 45 minute presentation, this workshop will establish a basic
understanding of state and federal programs, including Social Security
Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicare, and
Medicaid. A question and answer
period follows the presentation.
ABOUT THE
PRESENTER:
Christina Tilney, is a licensed Master’s level
social worker with over a decade of experience, assisting individuals with a
disability and parents of children with a disability navigate
disability-related systems. Prior to forming Independent Support &
Supervision Services, LLC Christina spent eleven years advocating with and for
people who have disabilities at Kent County’s center for independent living.
As a person with a disability and a breast
cancer survivor, Christina appreciates the needs and hopes of all people
regardless of abilities. She actively applies her knowledge and
experience in her mentoring and client relationships. Her approach allows
people to explore issues, develop solutions and address change in an
environment of education and empowerment.
